Obituary
Betty Greene Lee, formerly of Black Mountain, North Carolina, passed away on April 9, 2025, at the age of 96. Born May 2, 1928, in Norwood, NC to Henry Lee and Annie Reynolds Greene, she enjoyed 67 years of marriage to her beloved Jeter L. Lee, Jr., who passed in 2018. Jeter and Betty have two daughters, Matoka Black (husband, Michael) of Asheville and Terri Queen (husband, Patrick) of Hayesville; four grandchildren, Russell Myers (Cindy) of Oak Island, NC, Kristin Smith (Richard) of King, NC, Laura Parks (Thomas) of York, SC and Alyson Queen (Tommy) of Greenville, SC; six great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Betty grew up in Aquadale, NC with two brothers, Lane and Bill, and sister, Helen Jane. She retired from Citizens Savings & Loan in Kannapolis and was a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She enjoyed gardening, creating beautiful floral arrangements, playing bridge with friends and family and was an avid sports fan and reader, often reading two or three novels each week. Cooking in “Betty’s Kitchen”, as Jeter called it, was truly her gift as family and friends always enjoyed a simple supper to a grand holiday dinner.
As member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Concord, NC, Betty shared her beautiful soprano voice in the chancel choir. After moving to Black Mountain, Jeter and Betty enjoyed 20 years serving their church, Black Mountain United Methodist, traveling with their seniors’ group and spending time with family. In 2022, Betty moved to a care center in Hayesville where she was confidante and friend to many of the staff members who took great care of her.
Betty loved to recount stories of family gatherings, memories of their Christian Tours trips and times of community service as well as relive the good times of love, laughter and great joy that she and Jeter shared.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Black Mountain United Methodist Church, 101 Church Street, Black Mountain, NC 28711 on Saturday, May 10th at 11:00 AM. Betty’s family will receive guests immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Shriners Children’s Hospital Greenville, Office of Philanthropy, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
